UTAH MONTHLY January 2024 Location: Game Haven Sandy (9860 S. 700 E. Sandy, UT 84070) When: January 27th, 1:00 - 5:00 PM (Please arrive 10 minutes early to register) Cost: No entry fee this month - just bring yourself, your army, and your winning personality. Format: Standard Draft This month get ready to try out Standard Draft, a strategic format that is new to the Utah heroscape scene. Bring one army of between 380 to 400 points, and between 6 and 18 figures. Your army may have up to 21 figures, but no more than 18 can be placed at the start of the game. There is a dice-off at the beginning of the game. The winner of the dice-off may draft an army card from the combined pool of both player’s armies, or defer the opening choice to their opponent. Both players take turns drafting one card’s worth of units on their turn until all units have been drafted. The loser of the dice-off will then choose whether to place their army first or second. Format: Teams 6 Turn rounds This month we will be trying a variation of the teams format. Instead of bringing individual armies and merging them, you will bring 1 team so all synergies will work for the entire team. Each player will bring all order markers and place them on the cards for a total of 3 turns per player per round, for a total of 6 turns per team per round. Specifically, Round 1 you will play your opponent's army, Round 2 you will play your own army, Round 3 you play your opponent's army, and Round 4 you play your own to finish it off. Hint time: Reverse-the-Whip is a staple competitive format, but if you're new to it, just be sure to realize that you both have to win with and win against what you bring. Format: Delta 350 Pick Your Poison (Pick what you play against) Bring two armies (up to 350 points delta) that do not share any figures. At the beginning of each game, roll the D20 against your opponent. Higher roller can choose to pick first or defer. Format: Random Teams, Bring Two This month we’ll be testing out our teamwork! Each game you’ll be paired with a random teammate. You will bring two armies that fit the build restrictions. At the beginning of the game, you and your teammate will secretly decide which one of YOUR OWN armies you will use. You cannot use one of your teammates armies. The sign-up will start capped at 27 players, however, once we reach that amount and I’ve taken note of the first 27 people, we’ll remove the player limit and everyone else can sign up -The figures will be given out at the END of the tournament. You must participate in the tournament to be eligible for the prizes - LIMIT ONE PER HOUSEHOLD. We’re currently limited in quantity and will prioritize getting the promos to everyone before giving out multiples for spouses, kids, etc. Please only sign up ONE person per household before we lift the player cap - You MUST arrive at 12 for check-in the day of the tournament to make the entry fee process as smooth and simple as possible.
