Each person will bring 2 armies with a combined figure cap of 18. Each round, you and your partner secretly pick either your set of armies, or your partner's armies. Reveal your choices at the same time as your opponent. For example, you can bring an army with 4 figures and your other army with 14 figures. Each game you will decide to choose which army to play. So, let's say you brought an army of knights and an army of Vikings. Your partner brought drow and an army of wolves. You and your partner decide to play your armies of knights and Vikings. You choose Vikings and your partner chooses knights. Then you reveal your decisions to your opponent.
